Everlane makes great quality clothing, ethically, and they’re all about being transparent in their business with how much they mark the product prices up.
Any company that checks out the manufacturers multiple times a year to ensure their integrity and then is totally upfront about the costs and markup on their products gets HUGE bonus points from me! I absolutely love this business model and it doesn’t hurt that their products are pretty stellar too.
While they don’t have a huge selection of clothing/accessories, they have great basics and the prices are astoundingly reasonable. Sure, you’re not going to get a t-shirt for $5 like on the Target clearance rack, but a $15 tee isn’t ridiculous, and knowing that you’re not supporting child labor and instead are putting your money toward an awesome company is a great feeling.
Besides, how awesome is that backpack? Makes me wish I had a reason to carry one!
Edit: I had some questions about Everlane’s factories, so to get an answer for you all I sent them an email requesting more information. Here’s what they had to say!
Thanks so much for waiting. You ask some great questions! All the factories we work with comply with SGI Labor Laws and we find this to be a great standard for them to meet. These labor laws ensure the employees earn fair amount and they absolutely do not allow children to work there. For example, at our factories in China the employees work 8-5 and are paid 5x the minimum wage. They’re also welcome to work overtime, but it’s not required. Wages are increasing 10% each year and now China is actually one of the most expensive Asian nations to produce in.
We have also personally visited our factories to confirm these conditions and you can learn more specifics here: http://china.everlane.com. As Everlane grows our information available to the public does too. We love to hear that people are interested in these issues because we are too. Thanks for your support and please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
All the best,
Sounds pretty great to me! If you have more specific questions, shoot Everlane an email. They’re super-helpful!
Note: I did use affiliate links in the post, but as always, I don’t use them on anything I’m not totally behind. I’m genuinely thrilled to find Everlane!
